Venerable elders stand side by side with beardless youth. Men wearing the traditional black coats squeeze next to longhaired hippies who may have donned a yarmulke for the first time in their lives a moment before entering the hall.
Here everyone is equal: those who belong to Chabad and those who do not, the deeply religious and those who have not yet begun to observe the commandments, the rich and the poor.
All of them are overshadowed by one single figure - the Rebbe. A farbrengen is a special occasion, during which the Rebbe talks to Chabad Chassidim and anyone else who wishes to listen. Farbrengens are held every Shabbat, on holidays, and on special dates on the Chabad calendar such as the 19 th of Kislev the "Chassidic New Year".
As a rule, the Shabbat farbrengens start at p. On a Saturday morning when the Rebbe decides to hold a farbrengen word spreads through the hall by word of mouth, and all plans are put on hold. By one o'clock, the hall is filled to capacity. The crowding is unimaginable.Can bus resistance
The Rebbe comes in. With brisk steps, he ascends the dais, sits in his red velvet chair, recites a blessing over the wine, and thousands of people answer, "Amen! The wine is poured into small glasses. Now everyone is looking at the Rebbe, trying to catch his eye. They are all waiting for the moment when the Rebbe will look at them personally. The Rebbe looks around at the crowd and, noting a man who has raised his glass toward him, nods his head and says, "L'chaim velivracha!
Some minutes later, the Chassidim sense, from signs invisible to outsiders, that the Rebbe wishes to speak, and in an instant the noise turns into absolute silence. The Rebbe begins to talk. In the summer he includes the appropriate chapter of Pirke Avot. Next he quotes from the innermost depths of Torah as explored in Chassidism. The Rebbe cites countless sources.
He does not resort to notes to help him recall a quotation or the outline of his speech! An ordinary lecturer brings a pile of papers to his lecture, so as not to forget something essential, and usually deals with a single topic. The Rebbe, in contrast, discusses dozens of topics at once, quoting verbatim from hundreds of sources for hours on end - and this is all done from memory!
When he speaks, the world ceases to exist for him. He hears only his own voice, sees his own gestures, and overflows with pathos.
With the Rebbe, it is completely different. He sees, hears and senses everything that goes on among the five thousand listeners. Each listener, even young children, feels embraced by the Rebbe's concern. This makes all the difference.

The festival of Pesach Passover was established to commemorate all of those events. There is one event that was so meaningful and unique that our sages designated that it have its own special day of celebration. What was this great, unique event? G-D told the Jewish nation that each household should take a sheep and bring it into their homes, then in four days time, they should sacrifice it and have a festive meal to celebrate their pending exodus, which occurred the following day.
Sheep were idolized by the Egyptians and considered to be a god. When they heard that the Jews were preparing a grand feast and that their god was the main course, it created a tremendous uproar throughout Egypt. What transpired next is the miracle. Logic would dictate that the Egyptians would then arm themselves in order to avenge their dignity and their god and start a war with the Jews, a war in which they definitely had the upper hand. They were very well prepared for war.
They had been the oppressive power for hundreds of years. The Jews, on the other hand, were unarmed and broken after hundreds of years in slavery. This caused a civil war and many Egyptians died in that battle, greatly weakening them. It was more of an internal affair between the Egyptians but the results had no direct effect on the Jewish nation. So why do we celebrate it? More importantly, why do we celebrate it separately from all the other miracles and plagues that directly led to the exodus?
G-D wanted the Jews to realize how powerful and meaningful the Mitzvahs that he will be giving them are and what can be accomplished by doing them. Even after all the plagues, punishments and absolute devastation to the Egyptians, they still remained stubborn and did not let the Jews out. After all these terrible plagues, Egyptian morale still did not change. Something higher needed to happen for the Egyptians to reevaluate and realize that they were truly cruel and only then would they let the Jews free.
The Jews saw how transformative a Mitzvah is. By doing what G-D asks, everything changes, challenges dispel and a beautiful future arises. A proper family life according to Torah requires understanding, effort, devotion, patience, a good heart, cleanliness, calmness, an orderly appearance, a happy mood, a smiling face and friendly behavior.
Willingness to Compromise. The very fact that you encounter so many obstacles to maintaining peace in the home demonstrates that this is one of your main tasks in life. Obviously, these souls are also obligated to follow all the Mitzvos, even those in which they did not fall short in a previous incarnation.
The difference is that when it comes to Mitzvos in which they did not fall short the previous time, the evil inclination does not mount as much opposition. It only presents enough difficulties so that free choice will remain, for in these matters, the person has already been refined in previous incarnations.When the Rebbe turned seventy, he challenged his chasidim to establish seventy-one new institutions.
I had the honor of being present at the farbrengen when the Rebbe celebrated his seventieth birthday. For those who believe, anything is possible, and there are no questions.
